Current Haircare Routine

“I’m…bald.” I said to myself as I stared shockingly into the mirror, trying to figure out what the hell I’d just done.

I remember the exact moment when I’d decided to do it. I had been so up in the air about my hair for months. I’d made the transitioned to wigs, but that required me to get someone to braid my hair every 2 weeks or so. Now, I don’t know how to braid, but I found out through this process that I only have one friend that knows how, which lead me to my current situation. After not finding anyone to help at the time, I just decided it to cut it off myself. I grabbed some scissors and just kept cutting. I’ve heard a myth about carrying stress in your hair – I had a lot to be stressed about at the time – and that starting over and cutting it is symbolic of releasing your negative energy. I won’t lie that first cut felt so liberating and freeing, so maybe that myth holds some truth. Now, I’m apart of the TWA – teeny weeny afro – Club!

Ever since I cut my hair, I had been looking for a good moisturizing  shampoo + conditioner. I had been dealing with dry hair which resulted in A LOT of breakage. Luckily around that time, my friends over at Love, Beauty & Planet sent over some of their ‘Hope & Repair’ Shampoo and Conditioner.  It’s said to be for damaged hair (aka mine) and is infused with coconut oil to nourish and repair the hair. I’ve been using it for about a month and wash my hair 3-4x a week. It’s done wonders for my dry hair!

Another great reason I’m loving Love, Beauty and Planet’s products is that they are completely vegan with no nasty chemicals added! The bottles are also 100% recycled plastic and the label’s adhesive is made to slip off cleanly so that the bottles can be reused. They’re really living up to their name!

I’m glad I did it. It was a second chance for me to start over and really try to get my hair health together. It’s growing back day by day, but I’ll report back when I can showcase some inches.

Future Rupunzel. Over & Out.
